I think my printer is the same as what is being offered on Amazon. (According to the diagnostics printout I have a Officejet Pro 8000 A809 rather than A809N) but printer does have a wireless connection and I think has the same performance ratings.
Anyway... if this is the same printer, if I were you, I would not buy it. I've had printers interfaced with my home computer ever since the old CPM days. I like buying printers, they're a new toy and there's plenty of people to give my trickle downs too. I have to say, this is by far the most frustrating printer I have ever owned.
The best one word description of this printer is Moody. When it's working then it's a Great printer! It sure is fast! But when it's not ... it can be a really frustrating printer.
As I speak I've probably gone through 2 packages of printer paper. Maybe 900 pages so far. For one frustrating reason (maybe a bad windows 7 driver ) or another (like a mysterious 3 page network diagnostic printout showing up in my stack of printouts) somewhere between 10 and 25 percent of those pages ended up in my recycle stack.
Things I hate about this printer
- I cannot get the networking feature to work reliably. Sometimes it works, but usually it doesn't.
- There seems to be a bug in this relating to sleep mode. Sometimes I'll press print and it won't appear on the printer until the next morning.
- I liked when buttons had labels like "Online" and "Power" but this printer has 4 buttons with icons that don't seem to have consistent meanings.
- There is a diagnostics printout of 3 pages. I'm not sure why it keeps printing these, probably because when there's a problem (and there's plenty of those) pressing the wrong button causes a diagnostic printout to appear. It would be nice if this printout had something useful to say, like a reason why it's not printing, or maybe even an indication of how many pages I've printed. But instead the diagnostics printout is limited
- I get lots of popup windows from the software installed on my computer. Lots of it is sales related
- There is no red light to indicate when there is a problem.
I'm required to give this item 1 star in order to enter a review, but in reality, that is overrating it. This is an absolute piece of junk printer; it is to HP printers what Windows Vista was to Microsoft Operating systems. It is terribly unreliable, often time jamming in the middle of print jobs, and it takes forever to recover from a problem. As the other reviewers said, it is very "moody", and it is a complete ink hog. A cartridge rated for 2000 pages will get you barely 500 on this printer. If you make the mistake of trying to print to it when it doesn't have enough paper, you will spend 45 minutes at least trying to recover to get it to print the rest of your pages. It will make a lot of "whirrs" and move the printer head back and forth, will cycle blank pages through the printer, and will very frequently pick up more than one blank page, leading to a jam. But don't count on it getting back to your original print job. Typically, you will have to cancel the print job and start over completely - and even then it might not work.
There is absolutely nothing good at all to say about this printer. Do not buy it at any cost. If you are offered this printer for free, do not take it, as the aggravation of trying to get it to work right will cost you plenty of time and trouble. It is not worth it under any circumstances.
